La ITV  ha annunciato un ordine per tre episodi di Midwinter of the Spirit, ambientato nel mondo  soprannaturale.
Si tratta di una serie adattata da Stephen Volk su un lavoro di Phil Rickman, che ha  pubblicato tra il 1998 e il 2013 il libro, il cui personaggio principale e' Merrily Watkins.
Merrily è uno dei primi pastori ad  eseguire l'esorcismo. Suo marito Sean, che la tradiva con un altra è morto in un incidente d'auto. Come se non bastasse, sua figlia Jane, una ragazza di sedici anni, non la sopporta.Anche se vive  numerosi conflitti personali, che la portano a dubitare della sua fede, la conoscenza del paranormale di Merrily richiama l'attenzione del detective Annie Howe e Franny Bliss, della polizia locale. Così, le viene chiesto di aiutare nelle indagini di un omicidio che potrebbe essere legato a culti satanici.

Nel cast ci sono David Threlfall (Code of a Killer, Shameless UK) nella parte del  Reverendo Huw Owen, mentore di Merrily; Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley, Downton Abbey), Ben Bailey Smith (Law and Order: UK), Leila Mimmack (Home Fires), Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones, The Frankenstein Chronicles), Simon Trinder (Dalziel and Pascoe), Oengus MacNamara (Game of Thrones), e David Sterne.

Le riprese di Midwinter of the Spirit inizieranno alla fine del mese di aprile a Manchester. La produzione è della ITV Studios, direttada Richard Clark (Doctor Who, Whitechapel).


Reverend Merrily Watkins finds herself replacing a retiring exorcist who is determined to make the transition as unpleasant as possible
Diocesan Exorcist: a job viewed by the Church of England with such extreme suspicion that they changed the name. It's Deliverance Consultant now. Still, it seems, no job for a woman. But when the Bishop offers it to Merrily Watkins, parish priest and single mother, she's in no position to refuse. It starts badly for Merrily and gets no easier. As an early winter slices through the old city of Hereford, a body is found in the River Wye, an ancient church is desecrated, and signs of evil appear in the cathedral itself, where the tomb of a medieval saint lies in pieces.
